A Small Family Business
Urban Leads is run by us, Jake and April, in Shellharbour, NSW. Since starting the business in 2021, our family has grown to include our two boys, Cash and Banjo, and life has become a whole lot busier.
Through all the changes, we’ve continued making every Urban Lead locally with the same focus on practical design, dependable materials and products made for real life with dogs.
It Started with Baloo and Akela
Urban Leads began because of Baloo and Akela. They both regularly chewed through store-bought leads, leaving us frustrated by constantly replacing them and struggling to find a quality Australian-made alternative.
We saw a gap for dependable dog leads made locally from quality materials, so we started making our own. What began as a solution for our two dogs grew into Urban Leads—handmade Australian rope leads now trusted by thousands of dogs and their owners.

Should I choose a 6mm or 8mm dog lead?
Our 6mm rope provides a slimmer, lightweight handling feel, while the thicker 8mm rope offers a sturdier, more substantial grip. Your choice should be based on your dog, walking style and preferred feel in the hand.
Can Urban Leads be machine washed?
Yes. Place your lead inside a wash bag and machine wash it on a cool, gentle cycle. Allow the lead and hardware to air dry completely before use.
Are Urban Leads chew-proof?
No dog lead should be considered chew-proof. Urban Leads are made from durable double-braided polyester rope, but they can still be damaged if chewed. Always supervise your dog and store the lead out of reach when it isn’t being used.
Which type of dog lead should I choose?
Classic clip leads are a practical choice for everyday walks. Slip leads combine a collar and lead for convenient supervised handling, while seven-metre long lines provide additional distance for recall practice and controlled exploring.
When will I get my lead
Every Urban Lead is currently made to order. We aim to make and dispatch orders on the same or next business day, but please allow one business day for production.
After dispatch, standard delivery with Australia Post can take up to five business days. Local pickup is also available from Shellharbour, with orders usually ready for collection within two business days. We’ll let you know when your order is ready.
